Name and shame national register updated regularly: Dept
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The Department of Higher Education says the name and shame national register that contains the names of those who have bogus qualifications is being updated regularly.
Spokesperson Khaye Nkwanyana has been speaking to Newswatch after three KZN teachers were released on R3000 bail each for allegedly submitting fraudulent qualifications to the department.
Education's Director-General announced last year that the list was being compiled and will be made public.
Qinisile Cele, Derick Madonda and Gloria Mthimkhulu appeared in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court where the matter was postponed to next week.
Nkwanyana says the accused name have most probably been added to the register as well which will be made public once certain legalities have been finalised.
''There were these threats that people are willing to take government to court for defamation of character, crimen injuria. In as much as they are there in the register but for them to be made to be known.
''To the extent that we haven't tested it in court, that legal aspect, we are concluding that it is working, it is functional, the name and shame list,'' he said.
