N3 to be monitored, as school holidays approach
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The N3 Toll Concession says yesterday's protest by truck drivers which shut down the freeway at Van Reenen's Pass has prompted it to explore ways to lessen the impact on motorists, should such a protest happen again.
Yesterday, dozens of haulage trucks were used to block the highway from the early morning in a protest understood to have been about better pay and against the hiring of foreign truck drivers.
As a result, there were massive traffic delays throughout the day and into the night.

Efforts to remove the heavy-duty vehicles only began in the evening. The road was completely cleared this morning.

The concession's Con Roux says they have increased their intervention efforts.
"It's the commencement of school holidays and so the vigilance will be heightened. Our own route patrol service, which is a 24/7 service will be out in full force. The manning at the plaza will be heightened so as not to have motorists unduly delayed in any way along the route," Roux said.
