The N3 Toll Concession anticipates between 1 500 and 2 000 vehicles per hour moving along the route over peak travel times between three in the afternoon and nine at night.

The Concession's Thania Dhoogra says from a safety perspective they are prepared for the mass exodus, set to last until tomorrow.

"Peak traffic conditions such as these contribute to congestion and possible delays and are associated with an increase in the rise of crashes and other roadside emergencies.

"Road users are advised to plan ahead. Additional law enforcement and emergency services are deployed along the route to enhance road safety and are maintaining a heightened presence."
