The South African National Roads Agency has announced the complete closure of the N3 between the Spaghetti Junction and the M7 Farningham Ridge interchange.

The closure will start this coming Saturday at 5 pm and is set to last until Monday at 4 am.

The closure will facilitate the demolition of the St James Avenue (Spine Road) Eastern Bridge Structure and Lancaster Bridge. This falls part of the construction process for the N3 road upgrades between the Westville Viaduct and the Paradise Valley interchange.

ALTERNATE ROUTES:

N3 to DBN:

Motorists (including heavy vehicle motorists) travelling on the N3 to DBN in the Western Durban area will be diverted onto the M7 (North or South). Heavy motor vehicles travelling North or East of Durban are advised to use the M19. The M13 (King Cetshwayo) Highway will be reserved for light motor vehicles travelling East.

N3 to PMB:

On the N3 to PMB, the road will be closed at the N2 EB Cloete interchange (Spaghetti Junction) in the East. Traffic will be diverted onto the N2 North or South as the last point of diversion for traffic.

St James Avenue and Harry Gwala Road will be closed in both directions at the St James Avenue bridge (Spine Road) from Saturday, 23 March, at 21h00 until 07h00 on Sunday, 24 March.

All motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the closure period and to follow the given alternative routes.

Heavy vehicle motorists are advised to delay trips over this closure period or to find a suitable stopping area to avoid a backlog.
