Mzwanele Manyi causes a stir at State Capture Inquiry

The Commission of Inquiry into State Capture began at a climax - when former government spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi, asked that Advocate Vincent Maleka recuse himself.

The businessman complained about Maleka's line of questioning, saying there was evidence of bias.

"Why is this posture only reserved just for me - like a hostile witness so to speak. There are people who wanted to come here and said with the treatment that they saw, being dispensed with me yesterday, they are no longer coming here," Maleka said.

Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said that Manyi would need to submit a statement and provide reasons why Maleka should recuse himself.

Manyi said yesterday that he believes that The New Age newspaper was punished for exposing corruption at Treasury.

He says the punishment started in 2017 when he bought TNA from the Gupta family.

His testimony continues.

Meanwhile, the commission is expected to hear from the ANC's Gwede Mantashe later.
