Meruschka Govender, known as Mzansi Girl, has been chosen by Tourism KZN to participate in a month-long tour of the province, while documenting what it has to offer as a travel destination on social media.

Speaking to Newswatch, Govender says she wants to share some of her favourite places of her home-town.

"What's not to love about KZN - we have the best weather, awesome beaches, wildlife and so much culture and heritage. My family holidays were around KZN growing up. It was just a chance for me to rediscover old places that I've been to and discover hidden gems," she says.

Podcasts and YouTube clips of Govender's journey will be made available to offer a first-hand experience. While her blog will capture every step of the journey.

Govender has already been sharing parts of the first leg of the trip using the hashtag, #gottaluvKZN on her Twitter feed.

She has shared some advice for those who want to rediscover their surroundings.

"My travel mantra is to be open to new experiences. I didn't challenge myself - for example I don't really like heights at all but I'm supposed to do the Moses Mabhida jump in two weeks. For me, it's like I'll try even though it scares me. Just open yourself to new experiences and you'll never know what will happen," she adds.

The tour includes places such as the Midlands Meander, the Drakensberg and North Coast, to name a few.
