MUT council to submit report to Higher Education dept
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Mangosuthu University of Technology’s Executive Council is to submit a full report regarding six of its members including the institution’s Vice Chancellor being put on special leave.
This is one of the agreements the council made with Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande this morning in a meeting held at the varsity.
Six executive members were placed on special leave in January as a result of a resolution taken by the council.
This after repeated failure by the members to provide adequate information on crucial aspects of the university programs as well as apparent inconsistent application of policies especially rules relating to staff appointments.
Nzimande says the meeting was an honest and fruitful one.
"Council must make sure we've agreed that they speed that up. We agreed that management of this university is going to meet with my departmental officials to sort out delays in the infrastructure roll-out.
"We are concerned that the university has only spent 12% of it's total infrastructure grant," he said.
The University has appointed Ubuntu Business Advisory and Consulting to conduct an Independent Investigation as commissioned by the council.
It's expected the investigation will be complete within a month.
