"His sister call him on Wednesday morning and I was not far away, I just heard this wailing from him. She called him to say Nicholas and Matri are dead.

"I, at that point listened in to the conversation and the moment I heard, I did the same wailing. So that's how we heard about it and so did  Nicholas' mother," says Ida Jooste.

Nicholas and Matri Molver's bodies were found in their bed in the Musgrave flat last Wednesday.

The adjoining vacant apartment had been fumigated with a white powder-like substance.

Jooste is married to Nicholas' uncle.

She says Nicholas' brother, who stayed in the same block of flats, noticed that the pair's car was still in the courtyard at a time when they should've left for work.

"He tried to call them and there was no response. Because he previously lived with them he had keys, so he discovered their lifeless bodies. He ran down and called his other brother. The three brothers lived in the same flat."

Moses Chetty is the vice-president of the Pest Control Federation of South Africa.

He claims a banned substance meant only for use in silos at farms was used to fumigate the flat.

He says proper procedures weren't followed.

"The fact that you didn't have any evacuation procedures in place means that yes, that is the end result we have to face. Secondly, there was no danger line. Thirdly there was no plastic sheets to seal the area.

"They just opened the doors, threw the tablets all over, closed the door and charged them R10, 000."

KZN police have opened an inquest docket and are still waiting for the post mortem results.

A memorial service for Nicholas and Matri is planned for Thursday.
