Murdered PPE corruption witness Babita Deokaran laid to rest

A Gauteng government official who was murdered after helping expose Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tender corruption is being laid to rest in Durban.

Babita Deokaran was shot dead outside her Johannesburg south home on Monday, shortly after dropping her child off at school.
The 53-year-old old had been helping with an investigation into the Gauteng Health Department's Covid-19 related contracts.
She was also a witness for the Special Investigating Unit's probe.

Her funeral service was held on Thursday afternoon at Greenheights Primary School in Phoenix.
Deokaran's cremation is currently taking place in Verulam.
In an open letter to South Africans, her sister Renu Williams says Deokaran's death must not be in vain.
Police say they have a lead in the murder case.
