Murder of elderly Morningside man ‘highlights spiralling crime in area’
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The recent killing of an elderly man in Durban's Morningside suburb highlights the endless battle against crime in the area, says Ward 27 councillor Ernest Smith.

According to police, the 63-year-old victim was found with multiple stab wounds in his Lambert Road flat on Saturday.
A 30-year-old appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday in connection with the murder.
Marshall Security, whose officers were at the crime scene, say the suspect was found at a known drug house on Harvey Road.

Councillor Smith says someone needs to be held accountable for the deterioration of Morningside.
"When it comes to drugs, prostitution, petty crime, and the like, it definitely needs attention from the South African Police Service, Hawks, metro police, and with the support of eThekwini Municipality and the judiciary of the country.
"We need to eradicate these negative elements that come into our communities and poison us from the inside and threaten our livelihoods, and we need to hold these bodies accountable when they do not give us the services we so need."
