Sixty-eight-year-old Garth Simpson appeared in the Glencoe Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Seventeen-year-old Qiniso Dlamini was shot on Simpson's farm in September.

The boy's family says he had gone to collect cattle that had strayed onto Simpson's property when an altercation broke out.

The incident was captured on video.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) KZN spokesperson Natasha Kara says Simpson is due back in court next month.

"Simpson appeared on a charge of murder, relating to the death of 17-year-old Qiniso Dlamini. He also faces charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

"The matter was postponed to 25 November 2021 for further investigations."

Lobby group AfriForum, which is representing Simpson, says they believe he has a good defence.
