Abaqulusi Municipality yet to respond to striking security guards
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The Abaqulusi Municipality in northern KZN is yet to issue a response on the protests by security guards over allegations of unpaid wages.
The guards claim they're owed seven months' wages by a municipal service provider whose contract also ended seven months ago.
The group padlocked a gate leading into the Hlobane Community Complex near Vryheid yesterday.
Officials say not yet able to comment as they need time to gather facts prior to addressing the issue.
A new security company has since been hired but disgruntled workers have prevented the company from taking over some municipal sites. One of the workers, Vuyani Plaatjie says they were never fired or retrenched.
Below, the security guards stood outside the Hlobane Community Complex during yesterday's picket.
