Municipality defends parking meters in KwaDukuza CBD
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
KwaDukuza Municipality is appealing for calm and patience from residents who are unhappy about the introduction of a paid parking system in the CBD there.

The municipality's Sipho Mkhize explains the need for the new system.
"The municipality realised that it didn't have many revenue bases which made it solely dependent on government funding as well as to address many other challenges - the most important one, unemployment. The rollout of the system has seen about 60 to 70% of the youth being unemployed," he says.
The new system was introduced at the beginning of the month.
Locals previously enjoyed free parking in the CBD.

Some of them are angry about costs while others say they weren't consulted about the system.
If you live in KwaDukuza, we'd like to hear from you.
It's been almost a month since the paid parking management system was implemented.
