Municipalities must provide sustainable services – Dlamini-Zuma
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has told a local government summit that municipalities should provide sustainable services and promote economic and social development that are in alignment with the Batho Pele principles.
She delivered the keynote address at the event taking place in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, on Tuesday.
"Everything we do in government must be about the people, it must be about building communities that are resilient, sustainable, prosperous, connected, non-sexist, non-racial and climate-smart.
"So at the end of the day, we can say we are succeeding, we built such communities."

She says the district development model is there to help coordinate and improve service delivery.
"This DDM is not a choice, it is a constitutional mandate because the constitution again says that the national and the provincial spheres must support and strengthen the capacity of municipalities to manage their own affairs, to exercise their powers and to perform their functions.”
