Municipalities must prepare for alternative energy sources - Dube-Ncube

Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says KwaZulu-Natal's municipalities need to also start making preparations for battery and solar-powered homes.

Dube-Ncube addressed the Energy Summit at the Durban ICC on Wednesday.
She's's acknowledged the interest of some to switch to alternative energy sources.
She says the move would spell trouble for municipalities, who make a major chunk of their revenue from selling electricity to residents.

Dube-Ncube says municipalities will need to revisit their by-laws and policies to survive this energy revolution.
"The switch to alternative energy has got a has the potential of bringing a negative impact on the revenue of the municipality because, again it creates disruptions in the rear positive that we are looking at but on the other side in terms of the revenue base of the municipality but also the muscle of the municipality, even to be able to attract loans is going to be impacted by the situation that we facing."
