Municipal services in eThekwini at a standstill

If you have a service delivery issue in your area, it's unlikely that eThekwini Municipality will be able to help.

Disruptions, from mass violent demonstrations and out-of-control looting, have hampered operations in the city. 


Technicians wanting to respond to water supply problems in Ntuzuma, Bothas Hill, Inanda and Umlazi cannot get to these areas. 


Many shops and the major malls remain shut. 


Spokesperson Lindiwe Khuzwayo says municipal buses aren't moving.

"We are experiencing delays getting to infrastructure that needs repairing such as infrastructure related to water and to electricity.


"We have suspended the collection of refuse in some parts of the city and our Sizakala centres remain closed. We appeal for patients from residents and from businesses and we will advise the public when our services will resume as normal."


Meanwhile, the City of uMhlathuze says the streets remain volatile as police continue to monitor all corners of the city. 


It says mainly commercial centres in eMpangeni, Richards Bay, eSikhaleni, eNseleni became a target of looters since early hours of Monday.
