Multi-million rand revamp for Durban CBD

A multi-million rand injection into a major inner city project is set to bring a facelift to the Durban CBD and immediate surrounding areas.

According to the municipality the city embarked on a facelift following visits to six Australian cities, including Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne to observe how development has taken place with each of these cities having a clear 20 year plan that took into account population, transport and business amongst other things.
The municipality says it's looked at these cities as they're very identical to Durban. In its statement eThekwini says it's identified areas within the that would be targets of the facelift.
Point area, Warwick Junction, Greyville and Victoria Embankment are some of the areas identified.
The city says in the Point Waterfront development will begin as early as next year with an amount of R23-million also budgeted to upgrade informal traders facilities within the CDB.
A R600-million municipal library is also to be the result of city's development venture.
