The commission released its final Data Service Market Inquiry report in Tshwane on Monday afternoon.

The report also found the price of data to be significantly high.

“The first recommendation is that Vodacom and MTN must immediately reduce prices by agreement with the commission. We believe on the basis of evidence that there is scope for price reductions in the region of 30-50%,” said commissioner Tembinkosi Bonakele.

The commission will also be taking more stringent measures against the two giant operators if they do not comply with the recommendations.

“Failure to reach this agreement within two months, will then lead the commission in going ahead with prosecution with excessive pricing or other exclusionary abuse before the Tribunal,” added Bonakele.
