Mthwalume farm owner offers R20 000 reward for info on murders

Police say the woman found murdered on Wednesday in Mthwalume was discovered by a team from the provincial office that had been sent out to sweep the area following other recent discoveries of bodies there.

Police say the woman found murdered on Wednesday in Mthwalume was discovered by a team from the provincial office that had been sent out to sweep the area following other recent discoveries of bodies there.

The latest victim is the fifth person to have been killed and left in sugarcane fields in the area.

Police say they're not ruling out the possibility it's the work of a serial killer.

Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the police team began scouring the area this morning.

"Around half-past-twelve, that is when the body was found and according to the information that we have is that she's half-naked and there is an open wound as if she was cut. 

"So we cannot say whether she was rapped or not - the post-mortem is going to determine that, and a murder docket has been opened for investigation," says Mbele.

A local farmer has told Newswatch some of the bodies were found on his property.

Siya Gasa owns a vast sugarcane farm property in Umthwalume on the south coast.

He says like the community - he believes a serial killer is involved.
