Mthethwa celebrates with century-old KZN school
Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa, says part of understanding freedom means changing the way in which people think and see society.
He's been speaking at Embabe Primary School, in KwaMbonambi where he's officially unveiled a plaque commemorating 102 years of the school's existence.
Both the national anthem and the African Union anthem was sung while the South African and AU flags were hoisted.
Mthethwa has explained the significance of the two flags being raised side by side.
"We want to inject to people that it's not about you as an individual, it's you as part of the community and therefore whatever you do you should not think selfishly. That's why we are emphasizing the problems of patriotism," he said.
Mthethwa has also used the occasion to officially launch Freedom Month.
