Msunduzi warns against building homes on municipal infrastructure
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Msunduzi Municipality has warned residents to avoid building on the city's existing infrastructure or risk having their properties demolished.

Deputy Mayor Mxolisi Mkhize says they have discovered that in a number of areas, several homes were built on top of infrastructures such as water pipes and sewerage systems.
"For example, in an area of KwaMpumuza, the area of Esigodini, you've got a couple of families who have built on top of our water main line. We've gone to another house where we were forced to even demolish certain parts of the house," Mkhize says.
He says they will embark on a community drive to raise awareness on the dangers of building on top of city infrastructure.
"You are building on top of the sewer line, then there is a blockage now. If there is a blockage, it is caused maybe by things that have been dropping as you were building that has gone and affected our lines. It ends up affecting the entire community. So we are pleading with the community to obey the bylaws of the municipality."
