Msunduzi ‘to take action’ after R20m irregular expenditure finding
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Msunduzi Municipality says it's taking disciplinary steps after its Public Accounts Committee lifted the lid on irregular expenditure to the tune of R20 million.

In-house auditors have been investigating the matter and found most of the transactions were recorded in the third quarter of the 2022/23 financial year.
Payments were made towards an expired prepaid electricity contract and to security companies that aren't tender compliant.

Municipal Manager Lulamile Mapholoba says they're zeroing in on the culprits.
"Internal audits would advise to say was it necessary because at times there would be situations that are necessary."
"If a disaster strikes now, you cannot be able to, for instance, get three quotations or run a fully-fledged SEM process because you've got to get blankets, get food and all of that. Those reasons as part of oversight must then be subjected to scrutiny."
