Msunduzi on disconnection drive in bid to recover R5.5bn
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Msunduzi has started disconnecting the electricity and water supply of owing customers.
The city says it's owed R5.5 billion.
It says the disconnection drive, which started on Friday, will last a month.
Acting Municipal Manager Nelisiwe Ngcobo says they are first targeting customers who owe rates.
"We cannot have a challenge in the sense of cash flow when we have got people that are owing us rates for an amount of about R1.2 billion. So we want to recover as much as possible."

Officials say they have already disconnected a warehouse on Berg Street which owes R1.3 million.
They say they also found illegal connections at the facility.
Illegal electricity connections have also been removed at another warehouse that hasn't paid its R200 000 debt.
A government department owing over R600 000 in rates has also been switched off.
