Msunduzi threatened with legal action over plan to sponsor football club
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The Umsunduzi Association of Residents Ratepayers and Civics has threatened to take legal action against the municipality's plan to sponsor another football club.
The City terminated its sponsorship agreement with Maritzburg United after it was relegated from the Premier Soccer League.
It's turning its attention to finding another club that will play at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
The ratepayers' association chairperson Anthony Waldhausen says it would be another reckless decision by the municipality and a slap in the face for frustrated residents.

"If the accountant goes go ahead to fund a new club, we will take the necessary remedies to have those responsible for approval serve charge for the reckless decision.
"We actually asked the municipal manager to provide assurance that the council will to entertain such reckless governance and to focus more on service delivery for projects that will uplift the municipality and its residence."
He says Msunduzi should instead partner with the Department of Sports and Recreation to ensure the stadium stays in use.
