Msunduzi confirms calm restored to Maritzburg city centre
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Mayor of Msunduzi Municipality says water and electricity supply has been restored at a hostel, whose residents have been protesting.

Hundreds of residents from a local hostel took to the streets demanding to meet the city's Mayor when their water and electricity was cut, allegedly due to non-payment.
They blocked off roads and burned tyres. Police managed to disperse the crowd early this morning.
The municipality's Themba Njilo says he met with community representatives earlier and officials from the Human Settlements Department.
"The building belongs to Human Settlements. So we came to an agreement that Human Settlements will pay what is being owed by the department so that we can reopen the services. Everything is now back to normal and we have restored the electricity and water. Thehostel residents are now happy and everything is back to normal."
