Msunduzi comes down hard on staff protesting unlawfully
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
The Msunduzi Municipality says some of the protesting workers from its waste management unit have returned to work.
The city was granted an interdict by the Labour Court on Tuesday.
It approached the court after workers staged a demonstration on Friday over job grading and a lack of uniform.
They blockaded some roads with burning tyres while a municipal employee who reportedly threatened the protesters was attacked.
"Currently, the rule of no work, no pay will apply to those workers who have not been at work unlawfully,” says municipal spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha.
"Consequence management will be applied, but in terms of addressing the issues that have been raised by the union as well as the employees - there is ongoing engagement with management, as well as the union and the waste management staff."
