Msimang’s resignation will dent ANC ahead of elections – analyst

African National Congress veteran Mavuso Msimang's resignation from the party has been described as a huge blow to the organisation.

This is the view of political analyst Levy Ndou, who has reacted to Msimang's decision to quit.

Msimang, who was the ANC Veterans League's deputy president, had been a member of the party for six decades.

Ndou says his departure came as a complete surprise.

"This is one person who has been in leadership and very vocal on matters of governance and in ensuring that the ANC remains on the right path, especially within the public eye."

In his resignation letter, Msimang said the ANC was on the verge of losing power.

He also said corruption has become part of the party's DNA, adding it has led to devastating consequences on the governance of the country and the lives of poor people.

Ndou says Msimang's resignation ahead of the general elections next year will leave a huge dent.

He says this should be a sign for the ANC to reflect and change their approach when dealing with critical matters.

"It will also depend on how the ANC responds towards the build-up of the 2024 general elections. Others would argue that the best thing is not to quit but to stay and ensure that you make a difference on the challenges facing the movement.

“Unfortunately, Msimang has decided to quit because it appears that whatever crucial issues they raised, nothing appears to be working on the part of the ANC."
