Motsoaledi: Magudumana's passport to be revoked
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says they intend to revoke Dr Nandipha Magudumana's passport.

Magudumana is in custody after being arrested in Tanzania while on the run with rapist and murderer, Thabo Bester, who had escaped from prison in May 2022.
Motsoaledi says the doctor does not deserve to hold the travel document.
"In the Identification Act, they outline the conditions under which a passport may be revoked. One of them clearly states if a person has been deported and has been brought to the country at the expense of the State, you are aware of what we have to hire that charted flight for R1.4 million at our expense and the law is very clear in that regard, that if that is the case we have the right to revoke that ID."

Regarding the urgent application launched by Magudumana to have her arrest declared unlawful, the minister said they only managed to access the court papers on Sunday afternoon.
"The general was shocked to discover that the Department of Home Affairs, and I as the minister, were not sighted at respondents in that matter.
"This is despite that on 15 May 2023, there was an exchange of correspondence between the director-general and Magudumana's attorney. Then they go to court without sighting Home Affairs."
