Motshekga 'satisfied' with start to KZN academic year

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says she is
satisfied with the start of the academic year in KZN.

The minister monitored the opening of coastal schools in the province on Wednesday, visiting two schools in the Umlazi District and two more in Durban.
Motshekga spoke to the media at Nkonkoni Primary School.
She said despite challenges their core business of teaching and learning is taking place.
"What the two schools confirms, is our own goals and challenges with infrastructure. We went to an ECD which is not the best place we can take the children to."

"And we want ECDs inside the community, with that school it was well placed but there is no space, the infrastructure is a problem and it's going to be another ongoing challenge while we still have our own challenges with old schools like this one."

KZN MEC Mbali Frazer said they have given themselves 10 days to ensure that all pupils are admitted into a school.
"We understand that as the department we don't know exactly how many learners we have in the first nine days of school. We allow learners who will come with different issues and we accommodate them. At this stage, we can't be exact on the numbers but as a department, we are happy with the admissions that we did."
