Minister Angie Motshekga says KwaZulu-Natal officials are working hard to
ensure that schools under the National Nutrition Programme make a full
recovery.
Motshekga was in the province on Tuesday to monitor the resumption of the feeding scheme after a disastrous few weeks under the previous main supplier.
“We do believe we are on course to continue on a successful path for the next few weeks, months and indeed for the rest of the year,” the minister said during a media briefing with KZN Education MEC Mbali Fraser.
“And we are committed to ensuring that the learners continue to enjoy their meals on time, daily as scheduled."
Many children went hungry when the company failed to deliver food to over 5 000 schools.
The department has since parted ways with Pacina Retail and reverted to what it says is its old model.
Pupils began receiving their meals again on Tuesday.
The NSNP feeds 9,6 million children on a daily basis across the country which government spends R9-billion a year on the programme.

Speaking to the media in La Mercy, Motshekga said the department has developed an online system to monitor the feeding scheme.
"The provincial government of the province has also developed an online tool using special technology that delivers mealtime data into the KZN Information hub."
