Motorists warned of 3-year upgrade on N3 in PMB
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Over the next three-and-a-half years, there will be road works on a section of the N3 in Pietermaritzburg.
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) says the highway is being widened between Gladys Manzi Road and the New England Road Interchange.
The roads agency says the R1.9 billion upgrades started in September and are due to be completed in 2026.
"Portions in a number of municipal roads in the vicinity of the project will also be upgraded or resurfaced either to assist with traffic flow or realignment needs. These include Washington Road, Murray Road and Cleland Road," says project manager Hugh Brooks.

"While the N3 is being widened, some of the N3 lanes may be slightly narrow to allow sufficient workspace, and the carriageway may also be bordered by concrete barriers similar to what we see on the other N2 and N3 upgrade projects.
"Motorists are urged to obey the speed restrictions implemented for their safety; two lanes in each direction will be maintained, but congestion can occur."
