The Energy Department says the price of all grades of petrol are set to drop by 18 cents a litre.

Diesel will decrease by 48 and 49 cents a litre, depending on the sulphur content. Illuminating paraffin will cost 63 cents less.

The department's Robert Maake gives the reasons for the favourable adjustments.

"The main reason for this decreasing is the strengthening of the Rand against the Dollar during the period under review and the fact that we started with huge over recoveries at the beginning of the period," he said.

The department says international markets also influenced the adjustments.

"The Basic Fuel Price (BFP) of diesel decreased by about 6 cents while that of petrol increased by about 25 cents during the same period. This could explain why the diesel over recovery is higher than the petrol over recovery," it said.
