Mothers of electrocuted PMB boys speak out

The mother of one of the three boys who were electrocuted while swimming in a river at Jika Joe Informal Settlement says they've been complaining about their living conditions for years.

Sweleni Dlamini, who lost her six-year-old son Gift, says they were promised proper shelter by the municipality over five years ago, adding the place they're living in, isn't safe. 


Eight-year-old Ernest Dewa's mother, Thabile says her son went to the local shop on Saturday to buy chips. Someone later called her and said his body was found in the river.

"A few months ago my house was burned then I find out my son has passed away. My home is far away - in Eastern Cape. I have nothing, it was painful to find out he had passed away." 


Gift's mother, Sweleni Dlamini says the family are in pain and not ok after they lost him. Dlamini says they were promised proper shelter by the municipality more than five years ago and says the place in which they live is not safe.
