Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
An infant has been found abandoned in bushes in Verulam, north of Durban.
Reaction Unit South Africa says the baby girl was found by a man picking mangoes near a stream on Oaklands Drive in Dawncrest on Monday morning.
There was a bag and a note next to the child, thought to be around three months old.
RUSA's Prem Balram says in the note, the mother claimed to have tried to contact social workers to no avail.
"Reaction officers and paramedics got to the scene, we were handed a baby. We examined the child and the child seems to be in good health.
"We believe the baby was abandoned half an hour prior. The baby had a bag had milk, it seems to be fresh. The baby is currently at the South African Poice Services."
