Morningside residents concerned over drug scourge
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A ward councillor for Durban's Morningside says there is a plan to rid the area of drugs.
On Monday, an alleged drug lord was shot dead at a property on Percy Osborn Road.
According to police, the 34-year-old was gunned down by three men.
In the aftermath, residents have pleaded with authorities to do something about the drug problem.
One social media user said she is tired of begging and pleading for known drug dens in her area to be raided.
"From my end, I am actively engaging with the South African Police Services on these types of issues," says Ward 27 councillor Ernest Smith.
"They deal with hard crimes such as drugs and raids. When it comes to dealing with these specific houses, obviously, if the municipality has some reach, but if found that they are actively involved with drugs and it is confirmed by the police, then we need the departments to come in and look at the situation."
