Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane says 73 mineworkers died in 2016 - a 5% decline compared to the 77 deaths recorded in 2015.

Zwane was speaking at the release of the statistics of the health and safety performance of the mining industry for 2016.
"As I attend the funerals, I see what the breadwinners - who are deceased - leave behind," says Zwane.
