More social workers needed to deal with social ills - Khoza
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
KZN Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza has expressed concerns over the small number of social workers employed by government.
She was speaking in Durban on Friday, as the department commemorated World Social Work Day.
This is a day in which social workers worldwide stand together and celebrate one another globally.
Khoza says there are too many families that are faced by social ills and are in need of support from social workers.
"We are paying a special tribute and extend our best wishes to all social workers for serving citizens in various capacities across the province. We acknowledge their immeasurable contribution, dedication and commitment towards addressing social problems in our communities,” said Khoza.
She said government was working very hard to ensure the employment of enough social workers to deal with the needs of the people.
"It’s very important to continue to appreciate social workers for their ongoing commitment to dealing with the plight of the people."
