A cold front has swept through the country,  bringing with it low temperatures. Strong winds are also expected along the north coast.

Heavy snow has settled at the top of Sani Pass on the KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho border.

The South African Weather Service's Julius Mahlangu says there will be early showers in the north eastern parts of the province on Thursday. He says conditions should begin to clear thereafter.

"It will be cold across the province with the possibility of light snowfall over the high lying areas of the south western KwaZulu-Natal. Going into Wednesday, there is a possibility of some heavy rain over the north eastern parts of the province. Those are areas include Richards Bay, St. Lucia and Ulundi," he said.

Durban will reach a high of 21 degrees today. The mercury will only rise to 20 in Richards Bay and 16 in Pietermaritzburg.
