More politicians likely to floor cross: Analyst

A local political analyst believes that with the local government elections just a few months away we are likely to see more politicians in KwaZulu-Natal changing parties.

The IFP says it will today be welcoming into the party 1 200 NFP members in Estcourt.

This as the DA in the province will be opening a second branch in Nkandla today, saying it's signed up many new members since the first branch was launched in President Jacob Zuma's hometown in early December.

Last week - the ANC welcomed four Kokstad councillors who left the DA.

Political analyst, Imraan Buccus, says this changing of political homes is not surprising adding that the IFP in particular is likely to benefit from this power shift.

"Magwaza-Msibi has, at least in the last 24 months, been in poor health and I think the NFP has taken a deep knock. Patronage is deeply entrenched in local politics. Patronage really dictates significantly the dynamics of local politics", he said.
