Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
Police are searching for a suspect who ran away - after a deadly shooting at the Pinetown home of an elderly woman this week.
Three intruders broke into the Padfield Park property that she's renting - on Monday.
The police's Thembeka Mbhele says the owner of the house was alerted to the attack when the 72-year-old started screaming.
"Just after 7pm, the owner of the house in the Pinetown area heard screaming. When they peeped through the door - they noticed three unknown suspects attacking the tenant in the house.
"The victim was screaming for help then a gun battle ensured which resulted in one suspect being fatally wounded. The other one was shot and injured. The other one managed to flee the scene," Mbhele said.
Police are investigating charges of attempted murder and housebreaking, as well as an inquest docket.
