Two suspected ATM bombers have been killed in a shootout with police at a business in central Durban.
Two others were arrested. Police say they got word of a group of heavily armed men in a minibus taxi who were breaking into a business premise on Anton Lembede Street, that is the old Smith Street, early yesterday morning.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele, says they had also allegedly planned to bomb ATMs and rob other businesses in the area. She says when officers approached the suspects, a shootout ensued.
"Two suspects were fatally wounded and a rifle as well a pistol were seized. Another two suspects were arrested. Housebreaking implements including grinders and hammers were seized. A search for one suspect still continues," Mbhele said.
