Detectives expect to make more arrests in connection with last year's massacre in KwaNdengezi near Pinetown.
Six people were shot execution-style in Snethemba in September.
Five victims were found dead near their vehicle while a sixth survived the attack.
SAPS provincial spokesperson, Jay Naicker, says a suspect was taken in for questioning several days ago.
"Detectives recently arrested a 23-year-old man at Tshelimnyama who they found in possession of one of the deceased’s cellphone."
The suspect, who was charged, made his first appearance before the Pinetown Magistrates Court yesterday on charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of stolen property.
Naicker says the suspect was remanded in custody until 12 February.
Detectives expect more arrests, as the investigation is ongoing.
