The Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk has already kicked off.  Walkers and some joggers will make their way from uShaka Marine World to Moses Mabhida Stadium. For the safety of the participants, police have closed a number of roads. Parbhoo Sewpersadh, metro police spokesperson, says motorists can use the M4 and Umgeni Road as alternate routes.

"We have set up a joint operation centre which includes Metro police, SAPS and organisers in order to accommodate the more than 30 000 participants", he said.

Meanwhile East Coast Radio’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu, says it’s a special day for the Durban community:

"For us the event represents the spirit of community and the spirit of KZN. It solidifies what we stand for as a brand", she said.

"As you know East Coast Radio is like a fabric that binds everything in KZN. So that is really what the event means to us", Mchunu said.
