Mop-up operations underway after severe thunderstorms in KZN

Disaster management teams have been dispatched to various parts of the province where heavy rains caused havoc on Saturday night.

Localized flooding in some areas left some houses submerged underwater and mud houses completely destroyed.


The heavy rains also uprooted trees, damaged schools, and roads.

KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila confirmed that there were no fatalities and mop-up operations are underway. 


"This includes municipalities that are within the uMgungundlovu, Ilembe, Harry Gwala, Amajuba District."


"We are also aware that a number of schools have been damaged specifically in the area of uMzimkhulu in Ward 9, where the roof in the school was utterly destroyed, and the whole school was damaged."
