Mop-up operations underway in WC after devastating storms

Government officials in the Western Cape say mop-up operations are underway after a deadly storm swept through the province over the long weekend.

Eight people, including four children, died after being electrocuted in Cape Town.
The storm also flooded several areas and uprooted trees.
Officials, led by Premier Alan Winde, gave an update on Tuesday afternoon on disaster management efforts.
"A lot of roads are still closed. We managed to open one lane here and there. The City of Cape Town currently has more or less 1 500 structures affected, 6 000 people, 2 000 families have been cut off," says Western Cape Minister for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell.

Overall, in the Cape Winelands, around 2 588 are affected structures and currently a need for 588 displaced people."
Bredell said they do not have a final fatality count at this stage.
"In the City of Cape Town, more or less eight. Remember, the search and rescue are still ongoing. In the rural areas, I know four rescue is currently ongoing, but we expect the worst there."
