Montclair man arrested for possession of copper cables worth R1.6m

Police nabbed a suspect in possession of copper cables worth R1.6 million and 18 rounds of ammunition in Montclair, south of Durban over the weekend.

A 35-year-old man was arrested during a police search operation on Fairbridge Road on Sunday.
"He was charged for possession of suspected stolen property and illegal possession of ammunition. The copper cables were positively identified by Telkom," says KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in a separate search on Silvertree Road in Wentworth.
"The suspect was found with 1 000 capsules of heroin and 28 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of more than R200 000. A revolver with 49 rounds of ammunition was also seized from the suspect."
"Police investigation revealed that the firearm was stolen from Gingindlovu in 2001. He was charged for dealing in drugs and illegal possession of a firearm as well as ammunition," Mbele says.
Both suspect are due to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
