In what appears to have been a desperate bid to save her newborn and three-year-old - a mother took the drastic decision of jumping out of a moving bakkie with her daughters when she thought the driver had lost control.
Paramedics say the incident happened at the intersection of Glenwood and Glenville Roads in Durban this afternoon.
ER24's Russel Meiring says the 35-year-old mother helped her young girls out first before she jumped out.
"ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found while the mother and children were found seated on the side. On assessment we found that all three patients had moderate injuries to their heads and arms.
"We treated the patients and transported them to King Edward Hospital for further treatment. The driver managed to stop the vehicle in time. He fortunately escaped without injury," he said.
