Molefe heading to Labour Court after axing
Former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe is heading to the Labour Court after the board rescinded their decision to reinstate him in the position.
The board acted on the order of Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown following a meeting between the board and an inter-ministerial committee.
Molefe returned to the power utility after serving as an ANC MP for three months.
He left Eskom at the end of 2016 after his close ties to the controversial Gupta family came to light in the Public Protector's report on state capture.
Eskom board spokesperson Khulani Qoma says they received court papers late on Saturday.
"He seeks to declare the decision to dismiss him invalid. Our lawyers are busy working on our response so that we can then meet the requirements of the Labour Court where he has gone to have this matter board," says Qoma.
Qoma says Molefe filed an urgent application.
"He is a citizen of the country. He is exercising his rights. We are accept the fact that he will have had to do that if he thought it was appropriate, but the board has to do what is in the interest of the company."
