Mogoeng said on Friday that he is standing by the statement he made in prayer on Thursday, where he prayed against what he called ‘a vaccine that may be marked with the mark of the beast 666’.

He was briefing the media on Friday about the judicial annual report for the 2019/2020 financial year.

But at the center of the briefing were questions regarding the prayer he made on Thursday at an event at the Tembisa Hospital regarding the Covid-19 vaccine.

"I don't know if people honestly misunderstood what I said or deliberately misunderstood me. I said if there is any vaccine that is being manufactured to advance a satanic agenda of the mark of the beast, 666 and if there is a vaccine that is being manufactured for corrupting people's DNA, God must destroy it.

"I want anything corrupt to be destroyed and if it's politics it is the kind of politics, I am happy to advance at any time. I am not saying all vaccines are meant to advance that agenda so if people want to believe that, that is their problem. I am never worried about backlash," said Mogoeng.

He said it is his constitutional right to express his religious beliefs and he will not be told to separate his religion with his work as the chief justice.

Mogoeng also rejected any suggestion that the vaccine must be compulsory, saying people must be allowed to choose whether they want it or not.
