Moerane Commission: 'Most of the killings are poverty-driven'
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen, Jarryd Subroyen
The Moerane Commission of Inquiry, probing political violence in KZN, has heard poverty is a driving factor behind political killings in the province.

Speaking on behalf of the public, Professor Sihawukele Ngubane believes people behind the murders are carrying out the attacks to put bread on the table.
Ngubane says government needs to intervene and create opportunities for communities - tackling hunger, unemployment and homelessness.

"Most of these killings are driven by poverty. People want to survive. Some of these people have struggled for liberation. They must find something that can put food on their plates," he says.
